About ELIYA
ELIYA, the Israel Association for the Advancement of Blind and Visually Impaired Children, is the principal organization in Israel providing full-week specialist programs to meet the needs of preschool blind and visually impaired children, and is now considered a leading center of its kind in the world.
Starting with one group of 6 children in 1982, ELIYA today provides programs for hundreds of children in three centers that operate six days a week:
The Petach Tikva branch covers central Israel.
The Be'er Sheva branch covers southern Israel.
The Jerusalem branch covers Israel's capitol and surrounding areas.
At ELIYA we strive to:
Prepare blind & visually impaired children for integration into mainstream education and the community at large.
Provide early intervention programs for blind & visually impaired children, adapted to their individual needs and abilities.
Strengthen and support families through individual and group counseling.
ELIYA's Status
ELIYA is a non-profit organization, recognized and partly funded by the Ministries of Welfare, Health, and Education and is supervised by the Registrar of Charities, which issues the annual Certificate of Good Standing. ELIYA is recognized for tax purposes for donations made in Israel, the United States, England, and through Keren Hayesod.
Principles
ELIYA’s programming is built on the following core principals: Every child with a visual impairment, also those with additional developmental disabilities, has the right to the finest educational and rehabilitation programs available.
These children also have the right to learn; to try to succeed and even to fail like all other children. We affirm there is dignity in risk!
No child, regardless of race, religion, creed, national origin or financial circumstances will be deprived of the programming he or she needs.
ELIYA will never rest in its quest to provide the finest cutting edge programming available. ELIYA will fully research and provide long term funding for every program it develops before it opens the program for enrollment.
Friends of ELIYA-USA was incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit, tax-exempt organization to raise awareness and financial support for ELIYA in 1999.
